The Costa Blanca
Climate The Costa Blanca is one of the healthiest climates in the world. The Costa Blanca (or white coast) corresponds to the province of Alicante Sunshine for over 320 days a year and an average temperature of 17°C During the summer months, the average temperature at least 10° above the UK. La Manga A strip of land, approx. 22kms. long, which forms a "barrier" and encloses the "Mar Menor" (Minor Sea) and separates it from the "Mar Mayor" (the Mediterranean). At it's narrowest parts it is only 100 metres wide and the maximum width is 1.5km. There are four canals which allow the water to flow from one sea to the other and at the two extremes of the strip there are two protected natural spaces. Over 44km. of beaches, narrower but with protected bays and coves
on the side of the Mar Menor, and longer, wider expanses of pure
golden sand fronting the Mediterranean. The beaches have been awarded
the "Blue Flag". |

Benidorm Benidorm, located about 45 km northeast of Alicante, is the largest costal resort on the Costa Blanca. It has a skyscraper skyline and boasts the highest hotel in europe. Benidorm has two major beaches, the playa de poniente and the playa de levante, which are about 5 km long. If you look for a quite and relaxing bath under Benidorm's sun, you should go for the Playa de Levante as the Playa de poniente has a main road next to the beach. Another interesting tourist attraction at Benidorm are the theme
parks, they are: Terra Mitica, Mundomar and Aqualandia, which offer
a variety of attractions |

Torrevieja The city of Torrevieja which get's its name from an old tower (old - vieja ; tower - torre), it was a fishing village established at the beginning of the 18th century and took over the salt administration from Orihuela in 1802. Torrevieja has the sun, sea and salt as its main attractions. It has two natural salt lakes known as “Salinas de Torrevieja”, which are formed by water entering the lakes/lagoons from the sea. The lakes are considered to be the largest salt reserves in Europe and the second largest in the world after the Dead Sea in Israel. For Health reasons, it has long been considered by many to be beneficial
to ones health to bathe in these waters, especially in the treatment
of bones, rheumatism, joints and heart conditions |
